Things to do in Beijing

Beijing has modern architecture like the Bird's Nest National Stadium, coupled with ancient sites, like the Forbidden City. Visit a well-known temple like Yonghe or the Beijing Temple of Confucius. Check out the Beijing Zoo and see a giant Panda. Visit charming places to shop like Nanluoguxiang and pick up some traditional Chinese goods. Admire the lake views and go ice skating at Shichahai. Be sure to take a day trip to see the Great Wall. The Mutianyu section is an especially well-preserved section replete with guard towers and palisades, and is only 70 kilometres north of the city centre.

Getting around Beijing

Beijing is a very large city and offers over 20 subway lines. If you’re outside the city, the Beijing Suburban Railway can get you further afield for day trips. There are also tens of thousands of buses and trolley buses that operate in the city.

Food in Beijing

If you really want to savour what Beijing has to offer, try going to the Chaoyang and Dongcheng Districts. Mongolian lamb, Sichuan chilli-spiked crayfish, dumplings and flatbreads, like black sesame shaobing, are some of the most popular dishes in the city.
